Top 3 Places to Appreciate Flowers in Shanghai in the Early Spring

Spring in Shanghai is filled with beautiful flowers: peach flowers, cherry blossoms, rapeseed flowers, pear flowers, plum flowers… They are only here for a little more than a month though, don’t miss them!

  1. Gu Cun Park 顾村公园

LOCATION: 上海市宝山区沪太路4788号 (4788, Hutai Rd, Baoshan District)

FLOWER VARIETY: a lot of cherry blossoms, plum flowsers, rapeseed flowers.

WHEN TO GO: Every year, the blooming time can be different. For 2024, I went on 3/21 and there was About 30% of the cherry blossoms blooming. I recommend going around 4/1 on a nice day.

TICKETS: 20 RMB ($3 USD) per adult.

NOTES: The park is really lovely. A perfect place to go on a weekday when there is less people. Picnic friendly! There is also a pink ferris wheel with air-conditioning in it (50 RMB, $7USD/person).

2. Chen Shan Botanical Park 辰山植物园

LOCATION: 上海市松江区辰花公路3888号 (3888 Hua Gong Rd, Song Jiang District)

FLOWER VARIETY: a lot of cherry blossoms, plum flowsers.

WHEN TO GO: You can go as early as Feburary to see the plum flowers. And then go in late March for the cherry blossoms. Plenty of young girls love to go there for photoshoots wearing traditional clothes. You might see some cosplayers too!

TICKETS: 60 RMB ($8.5 USD) per adult.

3. Century Park 世纪公园

LOCATION: 上海市浦东新区锦绣路1001号 (1001 Jin Xiu Rd, Pu Dong New District)

FLOWER VARIETY: some cherry blossoms, famous for its plum flowsers.

WHEN TO GO: Go in Feburary and early March for the plum flower! There are prayer ceremony and some cultural fairs in early March every year. A great reason to venture out to Pudong!
